Alvin Duane “Doc” Harmon, 80, of Ottumwa, IA, formerly of Pacific Junction, Glenwood and Des Moines, IA entered into eternal rest on February 6, 2008 at Monroe County Hospital in Albia, IA. He was born Nov. 13, 1927 in Pacific Junction, IA to Roy and Ella (Johnson) Harmon.

Doc graduated from Pacific Junction High School. He faithfully served his country in the Navy and Army from 1945-1985 during WWII and Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Mary Ellen Jones in Council Bluffs, IA on Aug. 15, 1950. To this union six children were born, Mickie, Gerri, Debbie, Cindy, Kevin and Royce Ann.

Doc was employed with the Iowa National Guard as a military recruiter until his retirement. He was a member of V.F.W. and American Legion.

Preceding Doc in death were his parents, wife of thirty-one years, Mary Ellen Jones Harmon who passed away in 1981, and sister Marjorie Stone. He is survived by his children Mickie Gray of Waldorf, Maryland; Gerri Cheyney of Peoria, AZ; Debbie Albertson of Garland, TX; Cindy Cushion of Kingwood, TX; Kevin Harmon of Glenwood, IA; Royce Ann Stockton of Waukee, IA; 19 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; very special companion Mary Ellen Cooper of Ottumwa, IA; sister Mary Lois Radford of Glenwood, IA; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
