INTERMENT: Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa

B. Franklin Johnson, 92, of Glenwood, Iowa entered into eternal rest on September 16, 2007 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born December 12, 1914 in Lyons Township, Mills County, Iowa to Seivert & Minnie (Johnson) Johnson.

Franklin graduated from Glenwood High School with the class of 1934. He was united in marriage to Thelma Meredith on July 11, 1934 in Emerson, Iowa. To this union five children were born Garold Franklin, twin sons Melvin Jay and Marvin Ray, Marilyn Sue and Max Alan.

Franklin & Thelma raised their family on the Miss Nell Bogart farm south of Glenwood for over 40 years. He dearly loved farm life. Franklin joined the Knights of Phythias Lodge in 1952 and served eight years as Chancellor Commander during his 33 years as a member. Franklin loved to share and embellish stories with his family, especially his grandchildren about his past. They took great pleasure in listening to these memories. He had a special drawer at his house where he kept gag gifts to share with his grandchildren. He delighted in sharing these harmless gags with them and watching them be surprised. Polka music was his favorite music and he enjoyed going to garage sales and to the casino, but his favorite pastime was being with his family whom he loved dearly. Anyone who visited him would always receive some of his popcorn and an apple. His family will keep these special memories in their hearts forever.

Preceding Franklin in death were his parents, wife Thelma in 1995, twin sons, Marvin Ray in 1943 and Melvin Jay in 2005, brothers, Kenneth, Paul & Alfred Johnson and infant sister Wilma Johnson. He is survived by his children, Garold Franklin & wife Sharlene Johnson of Salt Lake City, Utah, Marilyn Sue Millsap of Glenwood, IA; Max Alan & wife Carolyn Johnson of Glenwood, IA; daughter-in-law, Shirley Johnson of Dakota City, NE; 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great grandchildren; brother Glen & wife Wilma Johnson of Glenwood, IA; sister, Clara Mae Barkus of Glenwood, IA; sister-in-law, Lillian Johnson of Glenwood, IA; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends.
