Barbara Glaser

Barbara Gillan Glaser, 61 of Pacific Junction, IA entered into rest on Feb. 21, 2013 near her home. She was born April 20, 1951 in Superior, NE to Wendell “Jack” & Donna (Anderson) Gillan. She attended elementary and high school in Oak, NE and Nelson, NE. She attended two years of undergraduate in York, NE and two years in Kearney, NE where she received her degree. Barbara attained her master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.

Barbara was united in marriage to William F. “Gus” Glaser on March 25, 1978 in Nelson, NE. The couple loved taking care of their dogs and were devoted advocates of the humane society for many years. Barbara was employed as the Director of Programs for Douglas County Corrections for 35 years.

Preceding Barbara in death were her father and one infant sister, Linda. She is survived by her husband, Gus Glaser of Pacific Junction, IA; mother, Donna Gillan of Nelson, NE; sisters, Cheryl Jensen of Oak, NE: Terri Oltmans of Nelson, NE; nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

Interment will be at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Nebraska Humane Society.

    Gus:

    You don’t know me but you do need to know what I’m sure hundreds of people will say and that is that she was a marvelous person to work with and someone I looked up to because of her commitment to corrections and to those encarcerated.

    Thank you for sharing her with us.

    She will never be able to be replaced in our lives.

    It is with great sympathy that I send my condolences to all of Barbs family… We have the family we are born with and then sometimes if we give so much of ourselves we are blessed with a much bigger “family”. Barb was that kind of person! I say this with my own relationship with Barb. She went out of her way with so many in the Omaha community. There are thousands of people here that Barb touched. We will miss her and please know your family had a beautiful and giving soul. She will truly be missed!

    Gus and family so sorry for your terrible loss. Life on this planet will be such a sad place without Barb on it, she was a wonderful and thoughtful person.
