INTERMENT: West Liberty Cemetery North of Glenwood, Iowa
Bernice Fern Godsey, 80, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on April 3, 2009 at Bethany Lutheran Home in Council Bluffs. She was born to John and Francis (Skokan) Artkotter on October 17, 1928 in Omaha, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to John D. Godsey on July 4, 1953 in Glenwood, Iowa. To this union three children were born, Sherry, Donald (Bud) and Delbert. The family made their home in Council Bluffs where Bernice enjoyed being a homemaker and later helped care for her six grandchildren whenever she was needed.
Some of her hobbies included designing silk floral arrangements, shopping, doing puzzle books and maintaining her tropical fish aquarium. Her cat was a special companion to her for many years. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. The family always looked forward to the dual celebration of the 4th of July and wedding anniversary of Bernice and John’s marriage. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Preceding Bernice in death were her parents, husband, John, on Jan. 30, 2004, brother, John Artkotter, sister, Helen Hanson and 2 grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Sherry and husband Michael “Kim” Armour; Bud and wife Jennifer Godsey; Del and wife Brenda Godsey all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and a host of friends.
