INTERMENT: Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa

Dale Dwight Sell, 90, of Tabor, Iowa, formerly of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 3, 2007 at Tabor Manor. He was born March 1, 1917 in Silver City, Iowa and was the third of eight children born to Lowell I. & Ruth May (Williams) Sell. The family lived in rural Silver City before moving south of Glenwood when Dale was four. There he began his education at the Reasoner School, completing the 8th grade. He continued his education at Glenwood High School graduating in 1934.

After graduation Dale met Delores Ellen Lechliter at a rural young couple’s meeting south of Pacific Junction. They dated for three years before they were married on March 1, 1939 at the Christian Parsonage in Omaha, NE. To this union four sons were born, James Dale, Terry Lynn, Dennis Wayne, and Roger Alan. The family was raised on a farm south of Glenwood where he farmed and raised livestock until they purchased their home in town in 1970. Dale and Dee were employed as bus drivers for the Glenwood Community School District for many years. Dee passed away from a long battle with cancer in 1979 and Dale continued commuting students until his retirement. He thoroughly enjoyed the children he transported.

Dale will be remembered by his family and friends for his kind and gentle nature. He was definitely a care provider, as he took care of his son Jim who suffered from Fredrickson’s Attaxia and passed away in 1979. He had also taken care of Dee throughout her illness with cancer and passed away in 1979 as well. Dale’s strong devotion to his family and his faith made him an inspiration to all who knew him. He had a keen sense of humor and would often say, “It’s a great life if you don’t weaken.” When someone would comment on his hands being cold, he’d reply, “But I have a warm heart!” He truly did have a warm and loving heart. Family gatherings were always a lot of fun with great food and laughter heard throughout the gathering place. The entire Sell clan would welcome anyone openly into their family and treat you as their own. His family will remember his whistle, his tremendous work ethic, the best fixer upper and his great love for his faith and his family. Well done thou good and faithful servant!

Preceding Dale in death were his parents, wife Delores, sons, James Dale Sell, Dennis Wayne Sell, brother, Ercell and wife Deltha Sell, and sister, Maxine and husband Bernard Roenfeldt. He is survived by his children, Terry & wife Barb Sell and Roger and wife Cyndy Sell all of Glenwood, Iowa, 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, sister, Geneva & husband Walter Phelps of Prescott, AZ; brother, Vern & wife Helen Sell of Tabor, IA; Duane & wife Ruth Sell of Glenwood, IA; Ed & wife Betty Sell of Malvern, IA; Floyd “Corky” & wife Mary Sell of Omaha, NE; several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
