Emma E. (Mayberry) Gilson, 87, of Glenwood, IA entered into eternal rest at her home on May 1, 2012 in Glenwood, IA. She was born April 20, 1925 in Glenwood, IA to Ralph Harvey & Edith Lodema (Kinney) Mayberry. She graduated from Glenwood H.S. in 1942 and later earned her bachelor’s degree from U.N.L. Emma was united in marriage to Gene Gilson on June 6, 1943 in Glenwood, IA. They made their home in Glenwood and were members of the First Christian Church. The couple enjoyed camping, boating and especially looked forward to family gatherings. Emma was employed as a supervisor for over forty years with the Department of Social Services. She was instrumental in starting the Glenwood State Bank Heritage Club and was active in the Glenwood Senior Center. Preceding Emma in death were her parents, husband Gene in 2003, sisters, Beth Ellen Needham, Mary Catherine Jackson, Virginia Scott and brother, J.H. Mayberry. She is survived by her brother, Forrest & wife Jean Mayberry of Glenwood, Iowa, brother-in-law Richard Gilson of Council Bluffs, Iowa, cousins Barbara Sawyer of Glenwood, Iowa and Grant Sawyer of Minneapolis, Minnesota, nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

    Emma will be greatly missed. She was a wonderful, warm, loving woman whom I greatly respected.
