Fay “Vittie” DeLashmutt, R.N.

Faye, also known to many as “Vittie” DeLashmutt, 92, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Pacific Junction, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on Sept. 24, 2005 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born March 8, 1913 in Modale, Iowa to Kelly Lee & Iva Belle (Wallace) Vittitoe. Faye graduated from Modale High School in 1932 and later completed Jennie Edmundson’s School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. She was one of the first students to complete the program and was recently an honored guest at Jennie Edmundson’s Reunion Banquet.

Faye was united in marriage to William Clay DeLashmutt on June 7, 1936 in Papillion, NE. To this union three children were born, Connie Jo, Thomas, and Richard. Faye was active in many organizations through the years. Faye was a faithful fifty year member of P.E.O. Chapter F. F., serving in all offices, including the President office from 1960-1962. She was a member of the Pacific Junction United Methodist Church in Pacific Junction, life member of Women Society of Christian Service, Friends of the Library, and was chosen as Beta Sigma Phi’s Woman of the Year. While her children were growing up, she was a 4-H leader for the Lucky Circle and sponsor of the Future Nurses Association. Her first place of employment was at the Lutheran Hospital in Omaha and she later became Glenwood Community’s school nurse for 14 years. She was a marvelous cook and talented seamstress. Being a true caregiver and staying current in the medical field was of great interest to Faye. She was well read and kept informed of the latest treatments and medicinal changes in her field of interest. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew and loved her.

Preceding Faye in death was her parents, husband, four brothers, Raymond, Don , Fritz and Harold Vittitoe and sister Nina Roll. She is survived by her children, Connie Jo Phelps of Omaha, NE, Thomas C. & wife Judith DeLashmutt of Glenwood, IA, Richard L. DeLashmutt of Glenwood, IA, 7 Grandchildren, 8 Great-Grandchildren, sister-in-laws, Edna Jackson of Lincoln, NE, Elaine Vittitoe of Falfurrias, TX, several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
