Joyce E. Kates, 61, of Pacific Junction, Iowa entered into eternal rest on Aug. 28, 2011 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born March 12, 1950 in Colony, Kansas to James Lester & Cressie Alene (Catron) Roller.

Joyce was united in marriage to Randall Alvin Kates on June 7, 1968 in Broomfield, Colorado. To this union two sons were born, Don and Chris. Joyce was a homemaker and member of the Pacific Junction United Methodist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Preceding Joyce in death were her parents, 4 brothers, 1 sister and grandson, Dalton. She is survived by her husband Randy Kates of Pacific Junction, Iowa; sons, Don & wife Sonny Kates of Pacific Junction, Iowa; Chris & wife Amy Kates of Shenandoah, Iowa; 6 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Sadia Groves of Hartsburg, Missouri; Doris White of Commerce City, Colorado; Sharon Stewart of Pacific Junction, Iowa; Karen Wade of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and many friends.

    I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Joyce. The Kates family is in my prayers as they mourn her passing.

    She was a sweet and kind person and she will be missed by all who knew her.

    Our Prayer’s Are with Randy & Family

    Joyce was a great Friend to our Family

    she was always smiling and saying nice things

    about our Mother,and she raised a good bunched

    Kids.

    Joyce always helped the Methodist Church,Ladies

    and she called the older women Young Ladies.
