Michael K. McGrath, 75, of Glenwood, IA formerly of Hastings, NE, entered into eternal rest on Dec. 7, 2011 at the Hospice With Heart facility in Glenwood. He was born Sept. 27, 1936 in Kansas City, MO to John Keith & Helen Marie (Munroe) McGrath.

Mike was a graduate of Hastings High School and was a talented athlete. He was on the basketball team with Tom Osborne, which won the State Championship in 54. Mike was a devoted Nebraska fan in every sense of the way. Following college, he faithfully served his country in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. After he was honorably discharged, he was assigned to the Baltimore Orioles Minor League as a pitcher in 1958. Mike has always been a sports enthusiast and enjoyed playing golf with his friends and family.

He was united in marriage to Ann Romayne Katzberg on March 19, 1960 in Hastings, NE. To this union three children were born, Beth, Cheryl and John. The family moved to Glenwood in 1969 where Mike was President of the Mills County Bank. He later opened his own financial service agency, which he operated until his retirement. In 1970, he was the Outcast King in the Glenwood Homecoming Parade.

Preceding Mike in death were his parents. He is survived by his wife, Ann McGrath of Glenwood, IA: children, Beth Ann & Dave VanKirk; Cheryl & Alan Brown all of Sutton, NE; John & Denise McGrath of Omaha, NE; 8 grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren, extended relatives and many friends.

    Dear Ann and family;

    I just wanted to tell how sorry I am for Mike’s passing. I know he is now at peace and probably trying out is new “golf clubs”. I know Cheryl shared my text with you. I will continue to keep all you in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless!

    Mike was a great leader and example during our high school days in Hastings.
