Nellie Lavon Hummel, 93, of Sidney, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on November 27, 2008 in Hamburg, Iowa. She was born January 28, 1915 in Hagie, Wyoming to Wiley Jordan & Alice Mae (McFall) Clay.

Nellie graduated from Silver City High School with the Class of 1932. She was united in marriage to Franklin Thomas Hummel on July 22, 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska. To this union three children were born, David Lee, Gloria Mae and Thomas W. The family resided on their farm south of Glenwood. In her early years, Nellie worked at the egg plant in Malvern, Iowa. She also enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her children. Following her husband’s passing in 1973, she moved to Sidney, Iowa in 1975 where she resided until she entered into rest. Nellie was a member of the Church of Christ in Sidney.

Preceding Nellie in death were her parents,husband, Franklin Hummel; five brothers; Frank, Don, Clifford, Neil and Max Clay. She is survived by her children, David Lee & wife Marcia Hummel of Sun City, Arizona; Gloria Mae & husband Gail Wilson of Carefree, Arizona; Thomas W. Hummel of Glenwood, Iowa; sister Carol Kiger of Glenwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
