She was born February 10, 1915 in Malvern, IA to Raymond Chapman and Elsie Knight Chapman. She was the 2nd of four children. She always told stories of walking to “Prairie Valley” Country School or “Frog Pond” as it was called, whre she completed the 8th grade. She then worked for several Silver City families doing housework.

Neomi always told stories of stinging with her Aunt Barbara Fern Knight on KMA Radio Station. They were called the “Silver Creek Girls”.

On March 3, 1936, she was united in marriage to E. Alvin Decker at the Congregational Church Parsonage. Traveling with Alvin’s aunt and uncle by horse and wagon in one of the worst snowstorms of that year. She always said their anniversary would bring a snowstorm and she was usually right. To this union 2 daughters were born, Alvina Me, born on Alvin’s 21st birthday, Aug. 8, 1937, and Connie Kay, born June 29, 1947. They spent most of their married life in the Glenwood area moving to town in 1953 to their home on Elm Street, where they resided until her health failed in 2002 forcing her to move to Glen Haven Nursing Home.

After moving to town she worked in the kitchen at Vi’s CafÌ©. Later she was employed by Iowa Power and Light Company for 12 years as custodian of the offices on the west side of the square.

She enjoyed taking care of her garden and flowers as long as her health permitted.

Neomi was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed nothing more than watching her grandchildren play baseball, softball, basketball and football.
