Orville Ervin Tackett was born August 20, 1918 in Fremont County, Iowa to Harve and Ethel Cora (Bailor) Tackett. He attended school in Fremont County and graduated from Tabor High School in 1937.

Orville served in the Army during World War II and on January 24, 1946 was united in marriage to Vera Leota Andrews at the home of her parents in Glenwood, Iowa.

To this union, three children were born. Orville and Vera moved to a farm near Mineola, Iowa where Orville continued to farm and also work as a postman before his retirement. He remained an active member of the American Legion Post 141 for 64 years and served as a cook for the Turkey Feeds for more than 60 years. He was also a V F W member.

Orville and Vera were faithful members of Grace United Methodist Church and Orville also served as lay minister in that church. He very much enjoyed helping others. He assisted with setting up for the Homecoming parades for a number of years and was pleased to be named Grand Marshall for one of the Homecoming parades. He served in all offices of the Mills County Farm Bureau and one of the highlights of that tenure was visiting Washington D C.

One of Orville’s great joys was eating a good piece of gooseberry pie! He loved family gatherings and dinners and especially enjoyed fishing, camping, farming, playing cards (especially pitch), bowling, throwing horseshoes, and volunteering at the Mills County Museum.
