Roland J. Gibbs, D.V.M., also known as Rollie, entered into eternal rest on May 1, 2006 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born in Waterloo, Iowa on December 7, 1920 to Bertram & Bertha A. (Hunger) Gibbs. He was united in marriage to Malinda Klempau on October 22, 1944 in Ames, Iowa. To this union four children were born, Paul H., Catherine Anne, William A, and Larry B. Rollie graduated from Iowa State University with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. He made his career in the Army as an officer in the Veterinary Corp. He served two tours of duty in both Europe and Korea. He particularly enjoyed the Netherlands. Rollie was a huge circus fan and was a member of Circus Model Builders Organization, Circus Fans of America and a fanatical fan of Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus. He was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola and was instrumental in starting and purchasing the first bells for the bell choir.

Preceding Rollie in death were his parents, wife Malinda in 1993, son William A. Gibbs in 1968, and sister Rosemary Jensen. He is survived by his children Paul H. & wife Jean Gibbs of Walkersville, Maryland; Catherine Anne & husband David Barnes of Wrightstown, New Jersey; Larry B. & wife Judy Gibbs of Marietta, South Carolina; 5 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, a host of friends and numerous friends among the Circus Fans of America.
