Verna E. VanSickle

Verna Eloise (Towns) VanSickle, 94, of Silver City, Iowa entered into eternal rest on Nov. 1, 2006 at her home. She was born March 25, 1912 in Denver, Colorado to Wilbur H. and Lillian (Brower) Towns. Verna was united in marriage to Norman Ellsworth VanSickle on July 3, 1947 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Verna was employed as a secretary at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Alaska when she met Norman. Following their marriage they homesteaded in Alaska to begin their family. Verna enjoyed staying home to take care of her children. Norman’s job took them many places before they moved to Silver City thirty years ago. Verna was a talented painter, enjoyed gardening and had a deep love for her horses and cats and passed the love for animals onto her children as well. She enjoyed working at the Glenwood Resource Center as a Foster Grandparent and volunteered in the Glenwood Public Schools for many years.

Preceding Verna in death were her parents, husband, infant twin daughter and two sisters, Pauline and Florence. She is survived by daughter, Sally Vitamvas of Silver City, IA; son, Jan VanSickle of Denver, CO and 5 grandchildren.
