Alvena Louise Mass, 97, of Glenwood, IA, entered into eternal rest on September 19, 2007 at Glen Haven Home in Glenwood. She was born January 31, 1910 in Mills County, Iowa to Julius Henry and Julia Catherine (Schoening) Roenfeldt.

Alvena graduated from Glenwood High School in 1927 and was a country school teacher at Sand Hollow until she was united in marriage to John William Mass on June 1, 1933 in Mineola, Iowa. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. Through the years she enjoyed playing cards. Alvena was a devoted homemaker and in later years babysat for all of her grandchildren whom she dearly loved and the feeling was mutual. Each one of her grandchildren have fond memories of the time they spent together.

Preceding Alvena in death were her parents, husband John in 1972, sisters, Meta Roenfeldt, Clara Roenfeldt, brothers, John, Paul, Bernard and Emil Roenfeldt. She is survived by her children, William & wife Barb Mass of Silver City, IA; Elaine & husband Danny Roenfeldt of Mineola, IA; Sharon Mielke of Silver City, IA; 7 grandchildren, Ryan Mass, Nathan Mass, Lori Gregory, Kristi Harrington, Shannon Bomer, Leigh Luff and Van Mielke; 12 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Dorothy Roenfeldt of Glenwood, IA; one nephew, four nieces, extended relatives and a host of friends.
