Alvin J. Smith, 76 of Anita, Iowa formerly of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Hastings, Iowa passed away November 5, 2019 at the Caring Acres in Anita. He was born April 3, 1943 in College Springs, Iowa to Walter Alvin and Esther Viola (McGuire) Smith.
Alvin grew up in Southwest Iowa, spending most of his youth and young adult life in and around the Bedford area. Alvin was a farmer at various times, raised livestock and was an auctioneer. He was a man “always on the go” and had many irons in the fire at any one time.
Later in life, he moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa and worked in the maintenance department for Con Agra Foods for many years. He bought his acreage in Strahan, Iowa during that time and enjoyed the best years of his life there.
Survivors include his daughter Jennifer Smith of Kansas, City, Missouri; sister, Barbara Petersen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; brothers, Calvin (Trina) Smith of Plainview, Texas; Glenn (Peggy) Smith of Council Bluffs, Iowa; J.C. (Peggy) Smith of Atlantic, Iowa.
In addition to his daughter and siblings, he is survived by 2 grandsons and a granddaughter of his longtime friend Linda, whom he thought of as his own.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Walter A. & Esther V. Smith and sister, Janet E. Harrison.
No services are planned. Private interment, Fairview Cemetery, Bedford, Iowa.

Al was a funny caring person. He was a hard worker n always had all sorts of farm animals runnin around!! Al always helped me whenever i needed help. He believed in me. He will always ve remembered n never forgotten. Thank you Al Smith! 💖
