Betty Lou Koehler Palmer

Betty Lou (Fahlsing) Koehler Palmer, 85 of Glenwood, Iowa entered into rest on December 14, 2017. She was born on October 30, 1932 in Edwards County, Kansas to Bernard Lewis and Daisy Olive (Goad) Fahlsing.

Betty Lou was raised in Kinsley, Kansas where she graduated from high school in 1951. Her education continued at KSU earning a B.S. degree in Home Economics. She graduated from Iowa Western with honors also doing 30 hours of graduate work in several areas. Betty Lou was a Home Economic Teacher, operated Betty’s Interior Design, worked at Glenwood State Hospital School at an RTW, provided catering and ended her career as a supervisor at Iowa Western cafeteria.

Betty Lou was a former member on many organizations including Kappa Delta Sorority (social), Elks, Eastern Star Chapter 52, National, State and Local Teacher Organizations in Kansa, Colorado and Iowa, American Association of University Women, Legion Auxiliary , Home Ec Club, Jolly Dozen, Democratic Party, District and Local UMW, District UMW Officer for Council Bluffs District, Royal Neighbors of America for over 50 years. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church for many years.

Betty Lou was married to Karl Albert Koehler on May 28, 1955 in Manhattan, Kansas. They had two children, Sabrina and Kirk. She later married Howard Taft Palmer on August 5, 1990 in Glenwood, Iowa.

Preceding Betty Lou in passing were her parents, step-parents, husband Howard, siblings, Bobby Lee Fahlsing, Ronald Lance Smith, Gene Becker, Gary Becker, Carol A. Ward. Survivors include her children, Sabrina M. Koehler, Kirk C. and wife Sharon E. Koehler all of Littleton, Colorado; grandchildren, Matthew E. Johnson, Sonyia E. Strange; great-grandchildren, Aizlynn Strange, Tim, Ethan, Addileen, Kiarra and Zurii Johnson; siblings, Sue Ann (Art) Jaske, Ann Casey of Great Bend, Kansas; Edwin E. (Virginia) Smith of Surprise, Arizona; Douglas G. (Cindy) Smith of Boulder, Colorado; Darrell L. (Rosie) Smith of Grovetown, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Suzanne (Bernard) Wagner of Hoisington, Kansas; Laurel Becker of Augusta, Kansas; many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

Interment will be held in the Oak Lawn Cemetery in Oakland, Iowa at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, Glenwood or Malvern Library, Glenwood or Malvern Sr. Center or Linnwood Estates.
