I am so sorry to hear about Carmelita. I really enjoyed talking to her when I would visit my Mom at Glen Haven. Prayers of peace and comfort to the family.

Not a condolence, I am her great-granddaughter, well, grandson now. I miss her a lot and am in school right now, freshmen American History. I decided I wanted to look at her image on google again and found this site…I saw these and almost cried.

I just received word of Carmelita’s death via Vince Else from Villisca. Carmelita was my first cousin. My sister, Marilyn, and I just asked each other a short time ago, if we had a current address which we did not. One of my most vivid memories of Carmelita was when I was a young girl and she was a senior in high school. We were at the home of Lloyd and Marjorie. I remember we were outside and Carmelita came out on the porch wearing her prom dress. It was lavender satin and had a dropped shoulder full collar. I thought she was beautiful. When I was growing up, our family went back and forth with Lloyd and Majorie and family very often. We often made home-made ice cream. I also vividly remember going to Carmelita and Vernon’s Corning home one Christmas eve for the Young get-together.

It had snowed several inches and was still snowing. We kids went outside and made snow angels and played fox and goose. (I made Aunt Marjorie’s fruit cake this Christmas and shared it with several people all of who were amazed that a fruit cake could taste so good!) The passing of one’s mother leaves a hole in the heart of her daughter no matter what her age. Sincerely, Judy Stewart Combs
