Charles “Charley” Robert Mutrux, 75, of Glenwood, Iowa passed away at home on February 15, 2024. Charley was born August 23, 1948 in Wheaton, Missouri to Leland and Elaine Mutrux, who preceded him in death. He learned many hands-on skills from his father who was a mechanic. He graduated from Rocky Comfort High School, then attended College of the Ozarks, and eventually moved to Kansas City. There he met Glenda Darlene Steward and they married on January 3, 1975 in Miami, Oklahoma.
Over the course of their 49 year marriage they raised four children, several dogs, and countless farm cats. Charley had a big heart and loved spending time with his family. Vacations revolved around travelling with family or going to visit them. Thousands of miles were driven going home to southwest Missouri, and later on road trips to New Hampshire, South Dakota, Colorado, Utah, Vermont and beyond. He especially loved time with his grandkids, and attended their games and recitals every chance he got.
Charley retired from Union Pacific Railroad in 2009, where he worked as a train dispatcher for 36 years. Following his retirement he enjoyed many years driving grain carts during fall harvest. He enjoyed putting in a garden each year, usually with a bounty of sweet corn, green beans, and tomatoes. Fishing trips to Roaring River State Park were common in the summer, and he spent many hours standing in an Ozark stream with a rod or in a canoe. He could often be seen driving around with his dog, Joe, enjoying the scenery and the weather.
Survivors include his loving wife Glenda; son Jeremy and wife Abby and their children Molly, Henry, and Finley Mutrux, all of Elkhorn, Nebraska; daughter Rebecca Mutrux, currently of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia; daughter Laura and husband Matthew and their children Kate and Jack Sargent, all of Glenwood, Iowa; and son Charles “Mitch” Mutrux of Glenwood, Iowa.
He is also survived by brothers John Mutrux (Jody Drake) of Merriam, Kansas; David Mutrux of Rocky Comfort, Missouri; and Wayne (Barbara) Mutrux of Craftsbury Common, Vermont; and extended family and friends.
The family will observe a private viewing and inter his remains at Rocky Comfort Cemetery, Rocky Comfort, Missouri at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the Glenwood Volunteer Fire Association, Glenwood, Iowa.
