Charles William Anderson, 80, of Glenwood, IA, entered into eternal rest on August 29, 2008 in Council Bluffs, IA. He was born June 17, 1928 in Red Oak, IA to Carl Oscar and Bonnie Mae (Bishop) Anderson. Charley was raised in Red Oak and later moved to Malvern where he attended high school. He was united in marriage to Verna Jane Ling on December 5, 1948 in Malvern and to this union four children were born, Dennis Charles, Sandy, Dianne and Steven Charles. During his early years of marriage, Charley joined the National Guard. He was employed with the Wilson Hatchery in Malvern where he and Verna made their home their first year of marriage. The couple then moved to Omaha for six months before making their home in Glenwood. Charley later took a job with Meadow Gold, then worked for Kaimans for many years. He was later employed with Pepsi as a Ware House Manager and retired after 32 years of service. Following his career with Pepsi, he became the driver of bus number 4 for the Glenwood School District for 12 years.

Charley had a zest for life and loved square dancing with Verna. The family has fond memories of the many camping trips and vacations to Colorado. Charley was a devoted family man and thoroughly enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren in all of their activities they were involved with. His love of nature was shared with all of the birds and squirrels in his yard as they enjoyed his daily feedings. He volunteered his time in the Glenwood Community for various organizations including the Glenwood Resource Center, Davies Amphitheater, Meals on Wheels, the YMCA, Glenwood Fire and Rescue, was a Chain Gang Member for 46 years and Scout Master. He enjoyed coaching the city basketball team and was a Grand Master in the Masonic Lodge. Charley was a faithful member of the First Christian Church in Glenwood.

Preceding Charley in death were his parents, brother-in-law, Elmer Jackson; sister-in-law, Roberta June Anderson; two infant sisters, Mary Evelyn Anderson and Lois Mae Anderson. He is survived by his wife Verna Anderson; children, Dennis Charles & wife Sue Anderson; Sandy & husband Joe Vinton; Dianne & husband Ed Thompson all of Glenwood, IA; Steven Charles & wife Becki Anderson of Kansas City, MO; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; brothers, Frank & wife Donna Anderson of Omaha, NE; Lee & wife Nina Anderson; sisters, Jean Jackson; Alice & husband Dick Maiers all of Glenwood, IA; Ruth Ann & husband Keith Stacy of Marian, IA; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
