Cheryll Lynne Ross

Cheryll Ross, Glenwood, Iowa, passed away October 17, 2017, at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Nebraska. Cheryll was born November 2, 1945, to William and Margaret Bunn in Newton, Iowa. On September 11, 1965, she married Patrick Ross in Rock Island, Illinois who preceded her in death on May 9, 2017. She is survived by son Thomas of Claypool, Indiana; son Timothy and spouse Ellen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter Theresa of Omaha, Nebraska; brother Ed Bunn of Colfax, Iowa; sister-in-law Sarah “Sally” Cassady of East Lansing, Michigan; sister-in-law Barbara “Sue” Wilkinson of Huntsville, Alabama; brother-in-law Raphael “Joe” of Afton, Iowa; sister-in-law Gerry Ross of Montezuma, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She greatly loved her four grandchildren Maxton, Meg, Andrew, and Aaron. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her brother James Bunn; brothers-in-law Michael Ross, Donald Cassady, and Dick Wilkinson; sister-in-law Myrna Bunn; and daughter-in-law Heather Ross.

Cheryll was an avid follower of her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting and extra-curricular activities and was always present at their events. She loved to travel with her husband Pat and their friends and especially loved the ocean. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish. She loved the political process and was honored to be part of it.

Cheryll graduated from Newton High School in Newton, Iowa. She worked at several banks and for Glenwood Community Schools before being elected as Mills County Auditor in 1988 and winning re-election two more times. In 1999 she became Deputy Auditor for Pottawattamie County, retiring in 2007.

Living most of her adult life in Mills County, Cheryll’s love of helping others led her to be involved in numerous community groups including director of the Pottawattamie County Red Cross, Holy Rosary Catholic Church Rosary Altar Society, Glenwood Community High School Ram Booster Club, director and volunteer at the Mills County Storehouse.

Visitation will be at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Glenwood, Iowa, October 22, 2017, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. with a prayer service to follow. A funeral mass will be held October 23, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Rosary Church. Interment will be private. Memorials are suggested to Mills County Relay for Life, American Red Cross of Nebraska and Southwest Iowa, Mills County Storehouse, Saint Albert Catholic Schools Fine Arts Department in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers and friends who have provided so much care and assistance to Cheryll and her family in this difficult time.

    So sorry for the loss of your Mother. We remember her from so many of your athletic events. A real sweet lady. May the many great memories of her eventually help diminish the heartache you feel today.
