Clarence Lidgett, 81, of Traer, IA, formerly of Glenwood, IA, entered into eternal rest on February 11, 2006 at Sunnycrest Care Center in Dysart, IA. He was born September 15, 1924 in Mills County, IA to Clarence Nathan and Pauline Gertrude (Horstmeyer) Lidgett.
At age 16, Clarence went to work for Cogley Brothers Ice Company. He helped with the family farming and following the death of his father in 1942, he continued to farm with his mother and brothers, Merrill and Jack. Clarence was united in marriage to Joann Huffman in 1948. To this union one son Ronald was born. The marriage ended in divorce. Clarence then started his lifelong career as a mechanic, working for Ernie Schoening in Mineola, Williams Brothers in Shenandoah and Buffington Motors in Glenwood. He was united in marriage to Mary M. Jones on Nov. 19, 1950 in rural Glenwood, IA. To this union six children were born, Connie, Kandice, Clarence “Butch”, Robert, Merry Jo and Tony. They also raised a niece Monica Jones following the death of her parents. He served his country in the Korean War in March 1951 and was discharged in Dec. of 1952. He and Mary purchased a lot in Pacific Junction in 1958 and built a shop there in 1959. With Mary as parts runner, they operated Lidgett’s Shop until 1970. Clarence then worked at the Mills County Garage and area businesses until becoming employed with Treynor School District in 1974 and retired in 1989. Following Mary’s death in Jan. of 1985, Clarence was united in marriage to Frances Razor on Febr. 2, 1991. She passed away in Oct. of 1991. Clarence loved to hunt, was a great storyteller and loved being with his family, especially his grandchildren. You could always depend on him to help in any way he could regardless of the time of day.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, wives Mary and Frances, two sisters, Leurine Spetman and Clara Millsap and brothers, D. G. “Buck”, Gerald, Lewis and Merrill and son Ronald. He is survived by his children, Connie & husband Gerald Rief of Council Bluffs, IA; Kandice & husband Monte Kizzier of Battle Creek, Michigan, Clarence “Butch” Lidgett of Las Vegas, NV; Robert & wife Julie Lidgett of Glenwood, IA; Merry & husband Joe Colangelo of Grayslake, IL; Tony & wife Amy Lidgett of Traer, IA; niece Monica Jones & husband Glenn Judevine of Omaha, NE; 23 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; brother: Jack & wife Shirley Lidgett of Council Bluffs, IA; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
