Colleen Jane (Kline) Pierce, 88 of Malvern, Iowa passed away on October 13, 2018 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born on March 8, 1930 to Daniel Dale and Jean Lucile (Lindsay) Kline in Malvern, Iowa. She had six siblings, Paul, Lou Ellen, Judy, Eldon, Jill and Dan.
Colleen started school at age 4 in Malvern. When she was 8 the family moved to a farm 3 miles north of Tabor where she attended school through 8th grade. She attended Tabor High School graduating in 1947. Colleen began nursing school at Jennie Edmundson in Council Bluffs in 1948 and graduated in 1951. She was voted Nurse of the Year in 1950 and won a trip to New York City to attend a banquet at the Waldorf Astoria and met Eleanor Roosevelt.
Colleen was united in marriage to Norman Dale Pierce on January 12, 1952. To this union three children were born, Shannon, Thomas and Brian. Her nursing career began as a staff nurse at Jennie Edmundson Hospital. It then took her to Dr. office position and then went on to become a nursing consultant. From there she became Director of Nursing in a rest home. She was also a camp nurse for the Girl Scouts for many years.
Some of Colleen’s hobbies included woodcarving, reading, planting flowers, cross word puzzles, refinishing antique furniture, enjoyed all sports and baking for her family. She loved attending all of her grandchildren’s activities.
Preceding Colleen in passing were her parents, husband, sons Tom and Brian and granddaughter Sara Sell. Survivors include her daughter Shannon (Stephen) Rubes of Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren Shari Sell Bakker; Samantha Sell Winter, Brittany Pierce Richter, Kaleb Pierce Richter, Ethan Pierce Richter, Noah Pierce Richter; great-grandchildren Caeden Bakker, Cooper Bakker, Olivia Bakker, Teagan Winter, Tabor Winter, Tandy Winter and Tyson Winter; extended relatives and friends.
Memorials may be directed to the family to establish a nursing scholarship in memory of Colleen.
