Dean Shipley, 84, of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on February 28, 2010 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born August 8, 1925 in Minburn, Iowa to Claude Hesper & Lillian Alexandria (Johnson) Shipley. Following graduation from high school, Dean was drafted into the Naval Reserves in 1943 and faithfully served his country until 1946 during WWII.

Dean was united in marriage to Alice Arlene Godwin on February 22, 1950 in Bouton, Iowa. They were blessed with two children, Deanna Rose and Jay Eugene. Dean was baptized on October 10, 1944 and confirmed in 1951 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Boone, Iowa. He and Alice were faithful members of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood where he had previously taught youth Sunday-School classes. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He and Alice just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary together.

Preceding Dean in death were his parents. He is survived by his wife Alice of Glenwood, Iowa; daughter, Deanna Rose Shipley of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Jay Eugene Shipley of Nassau, Bahamas; siblings, Vernon E. & wife Opal Shipley of Carlisle, Iowa; Harold T. & wife Leota Shipley of Westminster, Colorado; twin brother, Dale & wife Vernas Shipley of Perry, Iowa; Melba & husband Charles Derry of Rippey, Iowa; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends.

    Dear Alice, Deanna, and Jay

    You are in my prayers during this time. Dean always had an easy smile and was so pleasant to be around. I have many fond memories of him growing up. Such a great Dad!!! Take care of each other and remember him as I do with fondness. Love Linda
