Dennis E. Chaney, 62, of Glenwood, Iowa entered into eternal rest on Aug. 9, 2010 near Little Sioux, Iowa. He was born Sept. 28, 1947 in Clarinda, Iowa to Ernest Franklin & Phyllis Dean (Bauer) Chaney. Dennis was raised in Villisca and graduated from Villisca High School. He faithfully served his country during the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Kearsage.
Dennis was united in marriage to Juanita Kay Johnson on Nov. 29, 1968 in Villisca, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Marty and Dana. Dennis was employed with AT & T for more than 30 years as an electronics technician, working his way up to management. He and his family resided in Red Oak, Essex, Altoona and St. Louis before moving to Glenwood in 1982. By the end of his career, he was an account manager. After six months into his retirement, he had already re-sided and re-roofed his house, so he took a job at Huntel Communications in Omaha, retiring again three years later.
Dennis was a member of the American Legion Post 141, serving as a past commander; Tabor VFW, Legion Riders and Patriot Guard. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, and in his early years was a member of Isaac Walton League, which began his interest in gun collecting. He also enjoyed hunting and taught hunter safety courses. He was a former member of the Jay Cees and Booster Club, serving as past president for two years. Dennis took his family camping and canoeing and attended all of their sporting and speech events throughout their childhood. His yard was well manicured as he took great pride in the five acres where he and Juanita resided. He was a devoted son, husband, father and grandfather. Dennis loved to play with his grandchildren who lovingly called him, Bepa. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceding Dennis in death was his father. He is survived by his wife, Juanita Chaney of Glenwood, IA; children, Marty & wife Tami Chaney of San Antonio, TX; Dana & husband, Jay Firkins of Grimes, IA; grandchildren, Zoie Firkins and Taylor West; mother, Phyllis Chaney of Stanton, IA; brothers, Michael Phillip & wife Elizabeth Chaney of California, MD; Ronald Dean & wife Elaine Chaney of Ft. Myers, FL; niece, Lisa Chaney & husband Jihef Garnero & their son, Aidan Garnero; extended relatives and a host of friends.
