Doris Darlene “Dori” Alley

Doris “Dori” Darlene Alley, 81 of Glenwood, Iowa passed away at her home surrounded by family on October 21, 2024. She was born on October 24,1942 in Mason City, Iowa. She later graduated from Mason City High School in 1961.

Dori and former husband Robert Taylor were blessed with three children, Robin, Shelli, and John. She raised her family in Oakland, Iowa. Dori was united in marriage to Lyle William Alley on May 9, 1992 in Glenwood, Iowa. Dori was employed with Hummell Insurance and had been a resident treatment worker at the Glenwood Resource Center until her retirement.

Dori loved golfing and was on the Ladies League and Golden Girls for many years. She was a member of the local Eagles Club and several Bridge Clubs. She enjoyed playing cribbage every morning with Lyle and going to the casino. Her art for telling stories was enjoyed by many friends and family. She loved her family immensely, especially her four grandchildren. She enjoyed every moment watching them grow up, activities and sports, and spending time with them. She was an amazing grandma. Dori will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Preceding Dori in passing was her son John Taylor, siblings Wanda Harrell, Neil Richey, Jim Richey and Leslie Gruis. Survivors include her husband Lyle Alley of Glenwood, Iowa; daughters Robin (Kyle) Honadel of Olathe, Kansas; Shelli (Todd) Weddum of Glenwood, Iowa; grandchildren Jessica Honadel and Jacob Honadel; Brogan Weddum and Brady Weddum; sisters Betty (Paul) Fay; Marli Meyer; Jessie Sage; extended relatives and many friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday November 2, from 12 – 3:00 at the Glenwood Golf Course Clubhouse.

Private Graveside Services are planned at West Liberty Cemetery, rural Glenwood, Iowa.

Memorial donations may be made to the family.

    Our Hearts and Prayers are always with Lyle and the entire Family. Dori was such a delightful Person and will always be missed. Dori is now walking with the Good Lord in the Garden of Heaven.

    I played Golden Girl golf many times with Dory. She was a fun person and gracious host. I’m sorry to hear of her passing. May the grace and blessings of the Lord be with all of you.

    So sorry to hear of Dori’s passing… I enjoyed talking to her when we were both in Oakland and when she took care of our insurance needs at Hummel Ins in Glenwood. Praying for all family members.
