Dorothea Marguarite Thomas, daughter of Harvey and Lena (Denison) Lakin, was born August 5, 1915 in Bristol, Colorado. She attended elementary school and was a graduate of Emerson High School in Emerson, Iowa. Following graduation, she moved to Colorado with her husband and to that marriage, a son, Rupert Warren was born. Dorothea and her son soon returned to this area and she attended cosmetology school in Omaha, Nebraska for one year. Later on she was united in marriage to Eliot Henry Wiley Thomas and to this union, two sons were born; David W. and James A. Along with being a homemaker, Dorothea was an active airplane pilot, photographer and genealogist. When her children were in school, she enjoyed being a den mother and following track and field events. She felt a significant allegiance to her family farm near Emerson. She was an attractive, very private lady who enjoyed her own company. Current or former memberships of Dorothea’s included First Baptist Church, Pythian Sisters, Eastern Star, where she served as Worthy Matron, United States Daughters of 1812, Colonial Dames, and D A R.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Eliot Thomas; (2) sons, Rupert Warren and David Thomas; and brother, Ryan Lakin.
Survivors include her son, James A. and wife, Marilyn Thomas of Glenwood, Iowa; (4) grandchildren; Suzanne Thomas and Dorothea Jean Thomas of Dallas, Texas, Teresa Etten of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Eliot J. Thomas of Carson City, Nevada, (5) great-grandchildren; brother, Charles Lakin of Omaha, Nebraska; nephews; Charles Lakin, III and Kenneth Lakin; nieces; Diane Kilzer, Nancy Benson, Deborah Gorgani, Jeanne Ferguson and Marilyn Sacchetta.
