Dorothy Welp

Dorothy Marie (Dick) Welp, 80, of Glenwood, Iowa, formerly of Jewell, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on June 24, 2010 in Glenwood. She was born March 14, 1930 in Webster City, Iowa to Hugh Jay (H.J.) and Marie Esther (Beisner) Dick.

Dorothy graduated from Webster City High School in 1948, attended Webster City Community College and later graduated from Drake University with a teaching degree. She was united in marriage to Willis Emery Welp on August 12, 1951 in Kamrar, Iowa. To this union five children were born, Barbara, Jane, Dick, Mary and Bradley.

Dorothy taught school in Randall, Iowa, Jewell, Iowa and Story City, Iowa for many years. She not only taught children, but numerous adult migrant workers. Her life revolved around her children and grandchildren and she loved attending all of their events as they were growing up. She also enjoyed camping, being outdoors and traveling. Dorothy was a member of Elim Lutheran Church in Randall and attended Trinity Lutheran Church while living in Glenwood.

Preceding Dorothy in death were her parents, husband, daughter, Barbara Helfter, infant daughter Jane Helen Welp, infant grandson, Patrick Helfter and sister, Neva Myer. She is survived by her children, Dick & wife Nancy Welp of Forest City, Iowa; Mary & husband Scott Simms of Glenwood, Iowa, Bradley & wife Jana Welp of Marcus, Iowa; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, extended relatives and a host of friends.

Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church in Glenwood, Iowa or Elim Lutheran Church in Randall, Iowa. Additional funeral services and burial will take place at Elim Lutheran Church on Tues. June 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with burial to follow at the Mt. Olive Cemetery in Randall, Iowa.
