Edith (Nissen) Skinner, 97 of Boynton Beach, Florida formerly of Glenwood, Iowa passed away August 31, 2022. Edith Viola Hansen was born in Elk Horn, Iowa to Andrew and Mary Hansen on October 30, 1924 in Kimballton, Iowa. She was baptized at the Lutheran Church at age 6 in Elk Horn. Edith moved with her family to Audubon County. She attended rural school and was confirmed in Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Audubon. Edith graduated from Audubon High School in 1942. Following high school, she taught school for 6 years. Edith met Franklin Nissen at the fair and the couple were married 3 ½ years later after he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy.
The couple lived on a farm raising their 3 children, Darwin, Lorna Kay and Mary Lea. In 1967 they moved to Glenwood, Iowa where she was employed with the Glenwood State Hospital School as a supervisor. Frank worked for the D.O.T. for the state of Iowa.
Franklin became ill and passed away in 1986. She spent her winters in Arizona and worked one summer at Yellowstone National Park. Four years later, she met and married Herb Skinner. They lived in Montana and Arizona during the winter. They enjoyed traveling and resided permanently in Mesa, Arizona. Herb passed away in 2011. She stayed in Arizona until moving to Florida in 2021.
Preceding Edith in passing were her parents, brother Alvin, sister Erma, husband Franklin, 2nd husband Herb and daughter Lorna Kay.
Survivors include her children Darwin and Mary Lea, 10 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Memorial donations may be directed to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Mineola, Iowa.

From all of our family, we want to extend our most sincere condolences to Vi’s children and all her extended families. Vi was such a wonderful woman – always extremely sharp, full of sass and the twinkle of fun in her eyes. She was so very good for and to Dad during their 21 years together. We will remember many happy times we shared with them, and trust that everyone who had the good fortune to meet Vi has similar good memories. So sorry for the loss of Vi. She was such a fun person to be around. Were always welcome, I’ll put another potato in the pot! She and Herb had many good years together and she was filled with spunk. Thoughts and prayers for Darwin, Mary Lea and all her family.

Vi was a great Aunt. We spent many great times together. Becky, my wife, and I would give her call and we would do about anything, Bingo, every Sunday for lunch talking over evrything, curremt and past times.

Our prayers go out to all who loved Vi. She was a gracious lady with a kind heart and a terrific sense of humor. She lived life She loved our dad and they had wonderful times together. She loved her family and was proud of them all. She embraced Herb’s family with the same warmth. She will be missed by all.
