Ernest (Ernie) E. North was born March 29, 1944, in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to Ollie Saloma (Stone) and Ernest William North, and passed away on December 15, 2018, in Bellevue, Nebraska.
Ernie’s early years were spent living on a farm five miles east of Glenwood. He attended Pleasant Grove Country School, and in fourth grade, began attending Glenwood Community School, graduating in 1962.
On June 11, 1964, Ernie married Deanne Seipold at First Lutheran Church in Rockport, Missouri. They were blessed with two daughters, Michelle Lee and Sheralyn Rae. In their earlier years they lived in Council Bluffs, Glenwood, rural Malvern, Storm Lake, LeMars and Humboldt, Iowa, and then moved back to Glenwood in late 1979. Ernie served in the Iowa National Guard for 8 years.
In his lifetime, Ernie worked for several car dealers, the first one being Omaha Volkswagen, and the last one, Reagan Buick, from which he retired in 2004. He also painted with his father-in-law, and worked in northwest Iowa at Wayne Jones Furniture Stores.
Ernie was baptized and confirmed on July 7, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Glenwood, Iowa, where he was a member.
Ernie enjoyed fishing, and hunting coyote, pheasant, wild turkey and deer. He was one of the founding members of the Southwest Iowa Sportsmans Club in Glenwood. He served as a Chief Hunter Safety Instructor in Mills County for 20 years, and he received a State of Iowa Volunteer Award, signed by Governor Terry Branstad. Ernie was a great fan of music from the 1950s and 1960s.
He experienced great joy in hunting, fishing, camping and 4-wheeling with his grandson, and in attending various programs, concerts, dance recitals, and athletic events of his granddaughters. He enjoyed spending time with his great-granddaughter, Lorelei. All the family gatherings were precious to Ernie!
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant brother William, mother and father-in-law, sisters Veda Finchem and Donna Jean Miller; brother-in-law’s, Dave Miller, Marlin Finchem, Fred Seipold, Raymond Seipold and Wayne Leick. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Deanne of Glenwood; daughters Michelle (Boyd) Millsap, Kearney, Nebraska, and Sheralyn (Lynn) Stamp, Persia, Iowa; grandchildren Tyler (Kelsey) North, Lincoln, Nebraska; Kacee Kaufman and Kaitlyn Kaufman, Kearney, Nebraska; Kelsi and Abby Stamp, Persia, Iowa; great-granddaughter Lorelei North; sister, Waneta (Mel) Havener, Ft. Myers, Florida; brothers, Jay (Rena) North, Peoria, Arizona and Ronnie (JoAnn) North, Calico Rock, Arkansas; sister-in-laws, Norma Seipold, Omaha, Nebraska and Karen Leick, Glenwood, Iowa, and numerous nephews, nieces, extended relatives and many friends.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
