Ernest Franklin “Frank” Hayes

There will be Graveside Services in the Paradise Cemetery in Carson, North Dakota at a later date.

Ernest Franklin “Frank” Hayes, 83 of Glenwood, IA entered into eternal rest on Oct. 4, 2011 in Omaha, NE. He was born in Dubuque, IA on Nov. 4, 1927. Although his given name was Ernest, he was known by everyone as “Frank”. He was the second child born to Joseph and Lois (Maus) Hayes. He came to live at the Hillcrest Babyfold as an infant. On Sept. 18, 1930 Frank first came to live in Glenwood at the State School; he lived here for 27 years until moving on to another place for a couple of years. He then returned to Glenwood and then moved to Maquoketa, IA for awhile. After that he resided in the Woodward State School. Frank moved a few more places before returning to Glenwood. This has been his home consistently since Aug. of 1988.

Frank enjoyed music, sitting outside in warm weather and in his younger years he loved to dance. Christmas was his favorite holiday. He had a singing, dancing Santa that he got a great kick out of during the holiday season. Frank had a sense of humor that those who knew him loved. He could be a bit ornery, but he would then look at you and smile, which was his way of telling you that you were important to him and that he liked you.

Frank is survived by his guardian; Connie Werner of Durango, IA and many staff and friends who cared for him throughout his life.

To The Friends that worked with Frankie:

Frankie was a joyous man and we learned so much from him. Truly a child of God, inspiring all of us. Our family wants to express our sincere thanks to all of those that provided such wonderful care during his life. The doctors, nurses, primary care givers and friends have played such an important role in his life and made it so special.

Frankie will be buried in a grave that will be next to me and Greg in the small historical Paradise Cemetery south of Carson, ND at a later date. The Paradise Community is where the Werner families and their kin settled when they came to America so many years ago. To this day, the cemetery is maintained by Werner families with loved ones buried there. We believe that Frankie should be at rest with us since he left his natural parents as a baby and we have been his friends for so long. Frankie had some rough last years but those of us who have lived through his life with him know that he is rockin at the feet of God.
