Eugene “Gene” Murphy Miller, 71, of Glenwood, IA entered into eternal rest at his home in Glenwood. He was born March 1, 1940 in Lincoln, NE to Eugene Francis & Mary Elizabeth (Murphy) Miller.
Gene faithfully served his country in the Air Force from 1964-71 during Vietnam. He was a member of the American Legion, N.R.A. and Southwest Iowa Peace Officers. Gene was a middle school teacher in the Glenwood Community School System retiring in 2001. He coached and worked with youth for many years.
Preceding Gene in death were his parents. He is survived by his daughters, Kelly Perkins of Glenwood, IA; Kerry Peters of Overland Park, KS; grandchildren, Nicholas and Nathan Perkins; brother, Stephen Miller of Cunningham, KS; extended relatives and many friends.

I am so sad to hear of your Dad’s passing. Gene was a wonderful friend to me, especially during some rough times. As you know we taught and coached together for many years. We will truly miss his great sense of humor and his winning smile. His personality was a great as he was. My thoughts and prayers are with you girls during this time of loss.

I have fond memories of your dad as my teacher and coach in 7th grade at the old Junior High School (now, West Elementary) in Glenwood. He was a great teacher who knew how to make learning fun. I send my thoughts and prayers to you and your family at this difficult time.
Kelly, I was so sorry to hear about your father. He was a great teacher and a good man. I lost my father and had his celebration of life last week. It’s a great way to honor such wonderful men who have been dedicated fathers, grandfathers, and role models. Please know I’m thinking of you and your boys!

Kelly and Kerry, I was a high school classmate of your father at Sidney High class of 1959. I was deeply saddened to hear of his passing and send my heart felt sympathy He always had such a great sense of humor. We had lost touch over the years so it is wonderful to read the great tributes by his former students. What a wonderful way to be remembered and may these tributes give you peace.
