Galen Lee Lidgett, 68, of Summersville, MO, entered into eternal rest on April 25, 2005 in West Plains, MO. He was born June 19, 1936 to Devella & Hazel (Nelson) Lidgett in Mills County, IA. Following graduation, Galen faithfully served his country in the Navy on the DDR82 Destroyer FURSE ship from 1954-58.
Galen was united in marriage to Elizabeth Lucille Ahrens on June 10, 1983 in Silver City, Iowa. He was a 35 year employee with Mactier, holding positions as vice president, secretary and treasurer in the Livestock Exchange Building. He was also self-employed with his J & G Sanitation business until his retirement. He was a member of the Baptist Church in Missouri. Galen loved his family and enjoyed the gatherings and always looked forward to all of the delicious food that was prepared, especially the fried chicken. He was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinal fan and enjoyed many outdoor activities, including four-wheeling and tubing. His family shared that words could not describe Galen. He cared so much for others and was very proud of his children, grandchildren and his family. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him. Moving to Missouri following retirement brought him so much joy and he had met many new friends in the short time he was there.
Galen was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, Janice Stogdill and Charlotte Reafleng. He is survived by his wife Liz Lidgett of Summersville, MO; children: Galen Lee Lidgett, Jr. and ex-wife Linda of Houston, TX; Barry & wife Joanna Lidgett of Glenwood, IA; Tonia Rogers and R
obin Hodges both of Summersville, MO; 11 Grandchildren; 1 Great-Grandchild; sisters: Joyce Karnes of Hamburg, IA; Mary Lou & husband Mike Hanlon of Glenwood, IA; several nieces, nephews, longtime friend Melvin Havener of Ft. Myers, FL and a host of special friends in Mills County as well as Missouri.
