INTERMENT: Malvern Cemetery, Malvern, Iowa
Geneva I. “Peggy” Rutledge, 92, of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on January 2, 2009 at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was born June 24, 1916 in Malvern, Iowa, the youngest daughter of eight children, to Abner and Edna (Stout) Scott. She graduated from Malvern High School in 1934 and later attained a license as a beautician in Council Bluffs, Iowa. During World War II, she was a “Rosie the Riveter” at the bomber plant. In her later years, she shared with her family that she was also a document courier for the secret Enoloa Gay bomber project during the war.
Peggy was united in marriage to Joseph “Don” Loomer on May 2, 1941 in Waseca, Minnesota. To this union they were blessed with two sons; Joe and Doug. She had the opportunity to live in many different residences during her lifetime which included, Malvern, Tabor and Mason City, Iowa; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Casablanca, Morocco; New Orleans, Louisiana; San Antonio, Texas and Waseca, Minnesota. Although she had resided in all of these places, she was glad when she returned home to Glenwood, where she continued to live until moving to Risen Son Christian Village a few years ago.
In 1981, Peggy married James Rutledge in Glenwood and for a time lived in San Antonio, Texas before returning to Glenwood. Jim passed away on May 16, 1989. Peggy served as a record entry clerk at Mutual of Omaha for many years. She was also employed as a beautician and in women’s retail at one time. Peggy was a faithful member of Grace United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, card clubs and Friends of the Library. Being an avid fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers and Dallas Cowboys, she found a unique way to keep a record-scoring book. She was the family historian and dearly loved not only her immediate family, but all of her extended relatives as well. Her cat was also very dear to her. She had a talent for raising beautiful flowers in her gardens. Peggy will be remembered as a kind and loving person who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Preceding Peggy in death were her parents, her husbands, Don in 2006 and Jim in 1989, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her sons, Joe Loomer and wife Nancy Landes of Monument, Colorado; Doug Loomer and wife Pamela Keigley of Torreon, Mexico; 4 grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends.
