George A. Stille

Interment will be held in the Glenwood Cemetery.

George Arthur Stille, 100, of Toledo, Iowa, formerly of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on Aug. 13, 2011 in Toledo. He was born April 18, 1911 to Ben & Minnie (Scott) Stille on a farm near Logan, Iowa. In Oct. of the same year, they moved to a farm southwest of Glenwood, Iowa.

In 1913, they moved to a farm on Pony Creek near Ben’s parents and remained in Mills County most of his life. He attended school in Old Pacific City for 8 years attending the same building just as his father did for the same number of years. George then moved on to Glenwood High School for the next 4 years. Following his education, he started farming, but the depression took its toll and he moved to Emerson to become a grain elevator manager. In 1948, he purchased the drug store in Emerson, which he operated for several years. George later accepted a job with the State of Iowa as an auditor in the warehouse division until his retirement. He then began working for Peterson Mortuary from 1978-2009. George was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church and the Masonic Lodge #58.

Preceding George in death were his parents and wives, Helen and Josephine. He is survived by his children, Carolyn & husband Gene Anderson of Toledo, IA; Joyce & husband Bernard Patton of Scottsdale, AZ; George & wife Janice Stille of Wixom, MI; 9 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; extended relatives and a host of friends.

    It was amazing to meet my Great Uncle for the first time on his 100th birthday! Thank you for the wonderful stories! I will treasure them forever.
