Irwin I. Stone, 91, of Glenwood, Iowa and formerly of Pacific Junction, IA, entered into eternal rest on Oct. 11, 2007 at Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs, IA. He was born Dec. 7, 1915 in Macedonia, IA to Floyd & Fina (Andrews) Stone.
Irwin was a graduate of Glenwood High School in 1933 and was later united in marriage to Marjorie Edna Harmon on September 21, 1935 in Papillion, NE. To this union two daughters were born, Karen and Kristie. Irwin began farming for Grover Mickelwait, later for Leonard Dean, and then for Roy Harmon. He then worked for the Glenwood Water Department for a few years and started at Peter Kiewit from 1957 until 1967. His employment for the Glenwood State Hospital School began in 1967 and he retired in 1983 as a maintenance repairer. He was a 25 year member of the Iowa National Guard Co B 1-168th Infantry and was a Warrant Officer 1. Irwin was the first man in Glenwood to bowl a perfect 300 at the Stanley Bowl. He bowled on the Glenwood League for many years. Horseshoe Pitching was another art that Irwin mastered earning many trophies while he was participating. He had belonged to the Glenwood Eagles. Irwin dearly loved his family and was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceding Irwin in death were his parents, wife Marjorie in Dec. of 2006, daughter Kristie Henderson, six sisters and one brother. He is survived by his daughter Karen & husband Joe Sloup of Pocatello, Idaho, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, brother Duane & wife Marge Stone of Glenwood, IA; several nieces, nephews, extended relatives and a host of friends.
