Isa L. Schoening, 95, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, formerly of Malvern and Glenwood, Iowa entered into eternal rest on September 14, 2007 at Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs. She was born March 7, 1912 in Pacific Junction, Iowa to Louie & Golda (Stouder) Larsen.
Isa attended school in Glenwood and completed two years at Tech High in Omaha, NE. She was united in marriage to Clifford Otto Schoening on Aug. 15, 1928 in Omaha, NE. To this union one daughter Marilyn was born. The family lived on a farm in Silver City, IA and then Malvern, Iowa where Isa stood behind Clifford in all that he did, working many hours farming and caring for livestock. She was a master cook in the kitchen with quality and quantity preparing three large meals a day, plus lunch. Many tables were graced with her beautiful red floribunda roses. Isa was frequently seen at her sewing machine creating clothes, home items, gifts and Halloween costumes. She enjoyed decorating her home. Isa dearly loved her friends and sharing good times with them. She served as Grand Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and was active in Rebekah’s. Serving as a member of Mills County Homemaker Extension, she was honored as “Homemaker of the Year”. She was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church in Mineola. She enjoyed all of Marilyn’s school youth activities. She and Clifford were Luther League sponsors and participated in many church activities. Isa helped with 4-H and Band Mothers. She enjoyed her grandchildren and felt blessed to be in the same community in which they were raised. During the years, she was in many community service clubs and various card groups. Daily, she helped care for Clifford when he was residing at Glen Haven. After moving to Risen Son in 1996, she contributed over one thousand hours of volunteer work for which she was honored.
Isa was preceded in death by her parents and husband Clifford on Sept. 18, 1991. She is survived by her daughter Marilyn and husband James A. Thomas of Glenwood, IA; two grandchildren, Teresa & husband Jim Etten and their three children, James, Madelyn and Liam all of Denver, CO; Eliot Thomas of Carson City, NV; brother, Frank (Bud) Larsen of GA; other extended relatives.
