James (Jim) Garber

James Lee Garber, 62, of Glenwood, Iowa formerly of Lenexa, KS, Hemingford, NE and Seward, NE, entered into eternal rest on Aug. 21, 2005 in Glenwood. He was born April 30, 1943 in Iowa City, Iowa. Jim was adopted from an orphanage in Iowa City to Elmer George and LaVerne Mildred (Fosler) Garber. He faithfully served his country in the Army National Guard at a Staff Sgt. E-6 unit for 8 years. Jim was employed as a safety coordinator for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad. He was a former member of Jaycees in Seward, NE. Jim was instrumental in starting the Optimist Club and was the Charter President for the club in Hemingford, NE. He served as President, Vice President and Secretary for the Hemingford Volunteer Fire Dept. for 15 years. He held many offices in the organizations he was involved with and was an Elder for Emanuel Lutheran Church in Alliance, NE. Some of Jim’s favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, being with his family and his dog.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents and sister Bette Garber. He is survived by his children: Jeff & wife Amy Garber of Virginia Beach, VA and their children Tayler, Paige, and Joshua; Joel & wife Michelle Garber of Glenwood, IA and their children Blake and Rebekah; Angie & husband Scott Taylor of Alliance, NE; Jon & wife Madeleine Garber of Dekalb , IL and their son Jonathan Dimitry; Sherry Mittan & her children Kayla, Kaytlyn, and Dylan of Alliance, NE and a host of friends.
