James Joseph Springhower

James Joseph Springhower, age 45, of Glenwood, Iowa, passed away May 26, 2024.  To his family and friends he was known as Jim or Jimmy.  Jim was born September 15, 1978 in Creston, Iowa, but has spent most of his life in the Silvery City and Glenwood areas.  He was passionate about ancestry and history; especially the Civil War.  He also had a love and astounding knowledge of tractors and spent considerable time helping at the Indian Creek Museum near Hastings, Iowa. 

Jim loved teaching and focused on students who were on their last chance for success.  His years of teaching were at the Omaha Street School, Omaha Home for Boys, and most recently the Blackburn Alternative School in Omaha. 

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Lynel and Mahala Vallier and Walter and Alice (Cavanaugh) Springhower. 

Jim is survived by his daughter, Taylor Springhower; his son, Justin Springhower; parents, Ray and Kathy Springhower, all from Glenwood, Iowa; sister, Mahala (Haley) Springhower of Colorado Springs, Colorado; brother, John (Gina) Springhower of McClelland, Iowa; many aunts and uncles; nieces, nephews, other family and a host of friends. 

A gathering of friends and family will be held at a later date. 

The family wishes for memorials to be directed to the Indian Creek Museum, Hastings, Iowa.

Interment to be held at a later date, Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa.

    Jim was a good friend.: always witty and full of Life. He had a strong faith and commitment to the Lord. My sincere condolences go out to all the family.

    I am so sorry. He was a kind nice person. . Celine remembered him as always that way. He left a legacy of that and more. I loved that he taught school to students who needed alternative education. Impressed that he had such knowledge of tractors. Our condolences. Hugs. Prayers to all of your family at such a difficult time.
