Made football players out of us farm boys. We thought we were in shape from working all summer but he had us crawling to milk the cows & climb bedroom stairs after his two-a-day pre-school workouts. Sure paid off come game days. Never forget his “meat grinder” practice where he stood between two tackling dummies in his sleeveless gray sweatshirt and took all of us on in full pads one at a time.

Remained a special family friend throughout his lifetime. Only regret was not getting a picture of him and all of us guys at our 50 Year class reunion in 2010. “Red” was a great guy and still coaching me every time he saw me including the night of our Homecoming Banquet. Coach was one of those people in your life always to be appreciated and never forgotten. Wish I could be there for his services. Rest in Peace Big Man.

Dear Pat and family, so sorry to read of your loss, Red was a very nice man and will truly be missed not only by you but everyone who knew him. He was always happy anytime I would see him; have memories of him when I played basketball and when he was with you. My mother would always tell me when she would see and talk to you two. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. May God comfort you all know and in the days to come.

Just heard about this last week when I read the Nance County Journal.

I grew up with Red and the Holmes family in Fullerton. I’m going to miss seeing Red at our annual Fullerton High reunions.

I have many, many fond memories from knowing Red, from grade school right on thru the early 50’s before we all went our own way.

I shall miss him and think of him in my prayers.
