The family will receive friends to celebrate the life of Billie on Saturday, April 1, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Peterson Mortuary in Glenwood, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House; 1441 Pleasant St. Des Moines, Iowa 50314.
Billie Baldwin, 83 of Van Meter, and formerly of Glenwood, Iowa passed away on March 29, 2000 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines.
Billie was born on February 21, 1923 in Hamburg, Iowa to Marion and Fannie (Brown) Garrett. She graduated from Glenwood High School and worked at Boeing Aircraft in California as “Rosie the Riveter” and later for the United States Selective Service System in Glenwood, Iowa. She married Austin E. Baldwin in Omaha, Nebraska on May 18, 1947 and together they owned Western Hills Electric Company in Omaha, Nebraska.
Billie is preceded in death by her husband, Austin, her parents, three brothers and five sisters. She is survived by her son Gary (Rhonda) of Van Meter, grandsons Casey (Kelly) of Duluth, MN. And Tab of Van Meter, and granddaughter Toni of Van Meter. She is also survived by three brothers, Royce Garrett of Crofton, NE, Richard Garrett of Mission Hills, CA and Ross Garrett of Glenwood, IA, and one sister, Cay Melby of Atascadero, CA.
