Jerry Lynn Pontow

Jerry Lynn Pontow, 76 of rural Hastings, Iowa passed away February 27, 2024 in Glenwood, Iowa.  He was born March 5, 1947 in Omaha, Nebraska to August Louis and Phyllis Marie (Wheeler) Pontow. Jerry was united in marriage to Dorothy Jean Trimmer on March 3, 1967 in Hastings, Iowa. To this union two children were born, Marcella and John.

Jerry was a Foundry Worker at Griffin Pipe in Council Bluffs, Iowa for 30 years,  and was in the Army National Guard. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

He enjoyed being a Lewis and Clark reenactor, CB radio, black powder shooting and anything outdoors. He liked spending time at his local cabin, camping and woodworking.

Preceding Jerry in passing were his parents and sister Joanna Perkins. Survivors include his wife Dorothy Jean; children Marcella (Phil) McMartin of Oakland, Iowa; John (Terri) Pontow of Carroll, Iowa; grandchildren; Alex Pontow, Tanner Pontow and Jessica McMartin; siblings Bonnie (fiancé Donald) Corron of Ankeny, Iowa; brother Dale (Debie) Pontow of Sun City West, Arizona and brother-in-law Gary Perkins of Malvern, Iowa; extended relatives and friends.

There will be no visitation, funeral or any services, as the family is honoring Jerry’s wishes.

Interment to be held at a later date.

Memorial donations may be directed to the family.

    I just heard from Bob Baker at Ft. Atkinson that Jerry had passed away. I am so very sorry for your loss. I visited at your house to get some help on a project.
