Joe Clayton Hetzel, 78, of Tabor, IA entered into eternal rest on April 27, 2013 at Tabor Manor in Tabor, IA. He was born May 2, 1934 in Strahan, IA to Theodore & Osie (Hummel) Hetzel. The family resided on the farm in rural Tabor.
Joe was united in marriage to Ila Fern Schoening on June 3, 1956 in Glenwood, IA. To this union two children were born, Shirley and Scott. They lived a short time in Randolph until Joe’s father became ill and it was then that they returned to the family farm, where Joe remained until shortly before his passing. He farmed by day and worked at the Armour Packing Plant during the night shift. Joe was in the National Guard for 9 å_ years and also served as the secretary for the Rural Fire Association for a number of years. He was a steward of the land and also maintained several gardens surrounding their home. Joe will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceding Joe in death were his parents, granddaughter, Amy Fisher; son-in-law, Doug Fisher; brother, Wayne Hetzel & sister, Lois Arp. He is survived by his wife, Ila Fern Hetzel of Tabor, IA; children, Shirley & husband Roger Curry of Brewster, WA; Scott & wife Pam Hetzel of Tabor, IA; 6 grandchildren: Michael (Kaely) Fisher, Jennifer Fisher & Esteban Najera, Matthew (Patty) Fisher, Joseph Hetzel, Jacob Hetzel, Julia Hetzel; great-granddaughter, Emylah Najera; brother, Jesse Hetzel of Malvern, IA; extended relatives and many friends.
Interment will be held in the Tabor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mills/Fremont Rural Fire Protective Association.
