Joseph LaSala, 69 of Mineola, Iowa and formerly of Glenwood, Iowa entered into rest on September 19, 2015 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born on September 29, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri to Sam and Helen Frances (Duffy) LaSala. He moved to Glenwood in 1957 and graduated from Glenwood Community High School with the Class of 1963. He served in the Army and retired from the Army Reserves in 1987 as a Staff Sargent in the Red Bull Division Company B 1st Battalion 168th Infantry Iowa National Guard. During his time in the military, he was awarded the Red Bull Award for outstanding leadership, was an outstanding marksman, and made many lifelong friends. Joe was employed at MidAmerican Energy for 35 years and retired in 2003. He spent his retirement years with family and friends, collecting knives, trading cars, traveling and enjoying his annual fishing trips to Minnesota.
Joe was a quiet and generous man with an infectious smile. He enjoyed life and lived it on his terms. When he dined out, he made it a point to anonymously pay for someone else’s meal at least once a week. He also like to tip in $2 bills.
Preceding Joe in passing were his parents, Sam LaSala and Helen LaSala Colwell. Survivors include his daughters Heidi LaSala of Omaha, NE; Stacy (Ken) Heatherly of Fremont, NE; Cheri Francis of Bellevue, NE; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended relatives and many friends.
Interment will be held in the Glenwood Cemetery with Military Rites.
Memorials may be made to the Mineola American Legion Post 705.

Such a great guy, and devoted friend. You will be missed Joe!
Heidi and LaSala Family. So shocked to hear of Joe’s passing. I worked with Joe at the Power plant in CB. 12 years with him in the storeroom. Such a great man and friend. He will be missed by many. RIP Joe.
Condolences from Sylvia and Family. You all are in our prayers.
Please accept my sincere condolences to the LaSala family. I am so sorry to hear of the passing of Joe. The Bible assures us at Psalms 34:18 that God is near to those broken in heart. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your many great memories help you find peace and comfort as you go through the coming days.
