Visitation With Family: Sunday, October 2, 2022, 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M., Charles E. and Florence M. Lakin Community Center, 61321 315th Street, Malvern, Iowa.
Joyce Carol Kelley was born on September 17, 1934 in Rockford, Illinois, the only child of William Bernard and Vera Lucille (Molson) Shapcott. Joyce passed away in Red Oak, Iowa on her 88th birthday, September 17, 2022. Joyce spent most of her childhood on a farm north of Hastings, Iowa where she grew to love all animals and the farm way of life. In 1952, Joyce graduated from Hastings High School where she met her future husband, James Duane Kelley. The two were united in marriage on February 1, 1953 at the Wesley Chapel Church in rural Hastings and they immediately settled into life on the family farm north of Hastings. Their union was blessed with three daughters, Joni Kay, Judy Lynn and Jann Marie. Joyce cherished being a farm wife, and enjoyed working in the fields as much as sewing clothes for her girls. Joyce was an excellent cook and even better baker…her grandchildren always requested “Grandma’s Rolls” for family gatherings. Joyce enjoyed fishing in the local farm ponds, creeks and rivers, often with her parents. She adored riding horses and made sure there was almost always a horse or pony on the farm for her to pamper. Her “hobby” was shopping…she always had a great day if she spent it shopping with family and friends, whether or not she bought a single thing! She and Jim spent many winters in Arizona as the kids got older and formed deep bonds of friendship with other “snowbirds” over the years. She was delighted to have visited each of the lower 48 states of our country in their RV, oftentimes visiting their snowbird friends in their “natural habitat”. Joyce was a strong Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend.
Preceding Joyce in passing are her loving husband of 59 years Jim, her parents, and daughter Jann Marie (Kelley) May. Survivors include her daughters Joni (Jeff) Sell of Hastings, Iowa; Judy (Mike) McClintock of Payson, Arizona; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many extended relatives and friends. Her quick, beautiful smile will be missed by all who knew her.
Interment: Hastings Cemetery, Hastings, Iowa.
Memorial donations may be directed to the family.

Will miss her I know her daughter Judy and wish family prayers in their time of morning
My Aunt Joyce and Uncle Jim always made time for us “city kids” when we came to visit. My Aunt Joyce was way quick to keep us entertained along with our cousins. Through their older years they were able to come see us in Seattle and it was so good to share our part of the country like they shared theirs with us. She is reunited with my Uncle Jim and cousin Jann now. You wl be missed here on earth, but your pain is over. Love you-Julie
Joni, Judy and Families;
Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this time of mourning and remembrance of your Mom. So sorry to hear to her passing. No matter how ready we think we are for something like this, we never are. God bless you all.
