June McMahill, 86, passed away October 17, 2021 at her home in Glenwood. June Frances (Skaggs) McMahill was born on June 30 1935 to Frances and Elmer Skaggs. Born and raised in Glenwood, June graduated from GHS in 1953 and married Burton Storm shortly after and had four children: Dawn Storm of Glenwood, Diane Hammell of Glenwood, David Storm of Seymour Missouri, and Derren (Jeffrey) Schmidt of Georgetown California.
June married Randall McMahill of Glenwood in 1970; June obtained her masters degree in teaching and taught special education for over 30 years, she and Randy lived in Wyoming for several years before returning to Glenwood and teaching in Council Bluffs until her retirement in 2003.
June was active in fellowship with Grace United Methodist Church; she was an active participant in many civic and community organizations, including the preservation of her beloved Loess Hills Scenic Byway, the Mills County Earth Lodge Project, and supported many different nonprofit organizations.
June lost a long term battle with several episodes of cancer lasting over a decade. Her fortitude, positive attitude and concern for everyone else was an inspiration to all who came into contact with her. Never one to complain, she made everyone around her feel special, and never let a loved one leave without an endearing and heartfelt “love your heart”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Marian and grandson Val; she has left to cherish her memory: Randy, married for 51 years, children Dawn, Diane, David and Derren, step children Diane (Lynn) Letner of Lampe, Missouri; Cindy (Jon) Empson of Omaha, Nebraska; Michelle Woods of Omaha, Nebraska; half brother Jim of Coweta Oklahoma, nieces Gaye (Alan) Friese of Wichita Kansas, Carol Funk of Russel Kansas, Ann Johnson of Seattle Washington, Doug Droegemeier of Wichita Kansas; Grandchildren Daphne Eppinga of Sioux Falls South Dakota, Wade Catron of Chicago Illinois, Tess (Phil) Roker of Glenwood, Iowa; Sandy McDonald of Elko, Nevada; Dominic Durrett of Council Bluffs Iowa; Jason Storm of Springfield Missouri and Jeremy (Estefania) Storm of St. Louis Missouri; 10 great – grandchildren and many extended family members and friends who she cherished dearly.
Private interment, Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa.
Memorial donations may be directed to: Grace United Methodist Church, Hospice of the Midwest or the American Cancer Society.

I always enjoyed talking with June at TJ. She was a great advocate got her program, her students, and her colleagues.
I have known June for many years through the education association and through political functions. She was such a kind person who volunteered countless hours over the years. My condolences.

I have fond memories of June from many years ago when David and I used to hang out. I was very sorry to hear of her passing. Stay strong, remember the good times with your mother. My sincerest condolences to David, Derren, Diane, and Dawn.
June was sweet woman with a big heart. Memories of her will help you get through this difficult time. Sending prayers out to all of you.
June was my husband, Ron’s, mother, Shirley’s cousin. She was such an inspiration to Shirley, that I started e-mailing her. I wish I had met this wonderful woman-I loved her humor, kindness, love for her animals, and joy for life! Ron and I met her daughter, Derren, when Shirley passed, and would love to reconnect with her.
We have been busy the last few years with Ron going thru bouts of cancer, so –sorry we are late in finding the obit of dear June. Hugs and prayers to all of you-friends and family!! Ron and Sandi Weber
