Kenneth Albert “Kenny” Asmussen, 90, of Glenwood, Iowa, entered into eternal rest on June 23, 2011 in Glenwood, Iowa. Kenneth was born July 19, 1920 on the family farm to Albert and Alvena (Hammer) Asmussen. He attended Reasoner School through 8th grade and attended Glenwood High School, graduating in 1937.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Kathleen Dean on Feb. 25, 1940 in Rockport, Missouri. They were blessed with three children: Keith, Kent and Kathy Jo.
After marriage, Kenneth worked for Herby Hammer Salvage Yard, Skelly Service Station and did construction work in Glenwood and Ames. He worked as a switchman for the Burlington Railroad until losing his leg in an accident on Dec. 15, 1955. After recovering, he assembled aluminum storm doors and windows in his garage. Later he worked for an optical firm in Omaha and then Council Bluffs Auto Parts. In 1962, Kenneth was elected Mills County Recorder, retiring in 1986.
Kenneth joined the First Christian Church in Glenwood in 1948 and held several offices on the church board. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias for more than 50 years holding all offices in the local lodge and two offices in the Grand Lodge of Iowa.
Preceding Kenneth in death were his parents, wife Kathleen of 70 years & brothers, Herby and Arno. He is survived by his children, Keith & wife Dianna Asmussen of Encinitas, California; Kent Asmussen of Papillion, Nebraska; Kathy Jo & husband Tom Bussey of Glenwood, Iowa; 9 grandchildren, Matthew, Eric & Joel Asmussen; Mindy Saak; Shawn Asmussen; Ashly Kissel; RaChel Beardmore; Marcey Darmento; & Daniel Greenwood; 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandson; extended relatives and a host of friends.

So Sorry to hear of your loss. We have always had very high regards for Kenneth Asmussen. Truly a wonderful gentleman and had great regards for his family, his community and all of the people he served in his lifetime. Lasting memories.
