Layne K Parks

A memorial fund has been established.

INTERMENT: Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa

Layne K Parks, 61, of Glenwood, Iowa entered into eternal rest on April 3, 2007 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He was born April 4, 1945 in Glenwood, Iowa to Harry Albert “Jiggs” & Ruth Ellen (Miller) Parks.

Layne graduated from Glenwood High School in 1963. He joined the National Guards and was a member and past commander of the Glenwood American Legion Post 141. Layne was a member of the Glenwood Golf Course for many years and enjoyed it immensely. His sons followed suit with Keith getting a hole in one and Shayne getting a double eagle. He was on the Glenwood City Council for several years. Layne made sure all of his grandchildren had golf clubs as well. He was also on the Men’s Bowling League for many years with his best game being 299. Gary Cameron invited Layne to the hockey games and he became hooked on the sport. Layne made a trip to Florida to see his buddy Ray Ostrander and Connie feared she would never see him again. He had a great time wherever he happened to be. Connie had her 40th class reunion and she and Layne danced like they were 16, but felt more like their age the next day. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Oct. of 2006.

Layne had only been retired for one day from Ameristar Casino when he passed away. He had previously been employed with Glenwood Resource Center and had done surveying in past years. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Preceding Layne in death were his parents and sister Sherron Parks. He is survived by his wife Connie Parks of Glenwood, IA; sons, Shayne & wife Michelle Parks of Glenwood, IA; Keith Parks and fianc̩ Diane Heng of Glenwood, IA; sister, Barbara Parks of Council Bluffs, IA; brother, Matthew & wife Elda Parks of Pacific Junction, IA; sister-in-laws; Judith Gladwin of Ft.
