Millie “Carolyn” (Snider) Tackett, 98 of Glenwood, Iowa passed away on September 12, 2024 in Glenwood. She was born March 29, 1926 in Mills County, Iowa to Roy Edward and Nellie (Sperry) Snider. Carolyn was a lifelong resident of Mills County graduating from Glenwood High School in 1943. She received her teaching certificate after two years of intense studies and training during high school. She attended summer school at Peru State Teacher’s College and began teaching at the age of 17 at the Elm Grove, Pleasant Grove and Hawthorne schools in rural Mills County from 1943-1947.

Carolyn was united in marriage to Ralph Leo Tackett on December 8, 1946 at her parents’ home in rural Mills County, Iowa. To this union three children were born Twila, Philip and Rosanne. She worked hard alongside her husband on the farm through the years and a large vegetable garden and flower garden were also a labor of love that Carolyn and Ralph shared together.  She treasured the time spent with her family and enjoyed being involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, including the many family gatherings during the holidays and birthdays. Carolyn’s interests included traveling, working a daily crossword puzzle, cooking/baking, a talented seamstress, watching the birds at their bird feeders, reading, and family genealogy. A family favorite were her homemade cookies which she would bake and keep in the freezer-this was the first place everyone would go to get these special treats made with love by “Grammy”.   She had a love of horses and growing up riding her faithful horse, Wally, was a sweet memory for her.  She also played the piano and on her 11th birthday, her parents gifted her with an upright piano, which was always a part of the family home. Carolyn began writing daily in a diary at the age of 11 (1937) and continued until 2021. She had an extensive collection of violet patterned collectibles which included assorted dishes, figurines, and a violet dinnerware set that filled her china hutch.

Carolyn was a longtime member of the First Christian Church in Glenwood where she was baptized. She was involved teaching Sunday School, youth group activities, Bible School, member of the bell choir, served as a Deaconess, and a member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship and Friendship Circle. She was also a member of her neighborhood O.D.O.(Our Day Off) women’s club that met monthly for many years.  When the children were older, Carolyn began working outside of the home and employment included Glenwood Community School District, Iowa Job Service, Department of Census, City of Glenwood, Glenwood Chamber of Commerce and a seamstress.

She was a kind, gentle, loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; a true steward of the Lord.

Preceding Carolyn in passing were her parents, brother Max Snider, husband Ralph Tackett, son Philip Tackett and great-grandson Dominic Henderson. Survivors include her daughters Twila Tackett of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Rosanne Nutting of Bellevue, Nebraska; 7 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, extended relatives and friends.

Interment: Glenwood Cemetery, Glenwood, Iowa.

Memorial donations may be made to: Vine Street Bible Church or Glenwood Public Library.

I have so many fond memories of spending time with your mom and dad on the farm, with you, Rosanne!! Every time I would run into them in later years, I always received a heart warming greeting and a warm smile! Thank you for the privilege of being a part time part of your family back then to know such sweet people. My sincere condolences.

May sweet Carolyn rest in the arms of Jesus… what a servant she was, at home, in the church, and in her community. I feel honored to have called her a friend
