Marilyn (Boyce) Prien died peacefully and surrounded by her family on November 23, 2021.
Marilyn loved family, friends and life. She enjoyed music, playing in a band (Down Home) with her family and friends. Marilyn became an avid traveler late in life and had the pleasure of traveling to all 7 continents on various excursions with her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Fred Techau. Marilyn was an avid sports fan, cheering on her grandsons’ youth sports and high school sports teams. She was a devoted Iowa State Cyclones fan, traveling to many home football games and Big 12 basketball tournaments with her brother Don Boyce and his wife Sue.
Marilyn was born on August 8, 1939 in Pony Creek to Ferdinand and Vera Boyce. She graduated from Glenwood High School in 1957 and married Arthur Prien on September 6, 1959. They raised two children, LaDonna and Kevin.
Marilyn had a long and successful career at the Glenwood Resource Center, rising through the ranks of management. She was a valued member of the leadership team and help to manage many changes at the “State School” throughout the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. She was an intelligent, curious, and caring leader.
She was preceded in death by her husband Art in 2003 and is survived by her daughter LaDonna Allen and her husband Mike of Council Bluffs and her son Kevin and his wife Kathi and her grandsons Konner (and his wife Kenzi) and Keller Prien all from West Des Moines; her brother Don Boyce and his wife Sue; brother Jon Boyce and his wife Doris; sister Dorothy Techau and her husband Fred; many nieces and nephews.
Interment, Mineola Cemetery, Mineola, Iowa.
Memorial donations may be directed to the Glenwood, Iowa Public Library or to St. John Lutheran Church, Mineola, Iowa.
